Celebrating the life of
Rose M. Romano
Passed away on February 07, 2026
Rose Marie Romano, 89, of Savannah, GA died on February 7, 2026 of natural causes after a brief period of declining health. Rose was born on July 10, 1936 at the Cleveland home of her late parents, Elizabeth Olga (Orosz) Kish and Joseph Michael Kish.
Rose attended Saint Stephen High School. During this time she met her future husband, Anthony (Tony) Lee Romano, whom she wed when she was 19 and he 20. Tony passed away in 2009 after 54 years of marriage.
The couple initially lived in Cleveland where their first child, Tony, was born. After finishing college, Tony senior joined the military and they resided on a base in Fort Eustes, Virginia. Their daughter Eileen was born in VA. After leaving the military, they moved to Parma, OH where their other two children, Mary Lynn and Gary, were born. In 1976 the family moved to Bay Village, OH. Following Tony’s career, they then moved to Jamestown, OH in 1978, and then to Youngstown, OH in the early 80s.
Rose and Tony retired to the Landings at Skidaway Island in GA in 1987. They enjoyed many years there together - socializing, playing golf and traveling. After her husband’s death Rose moved to the Southbridge area where she had several friends. Her son Tony joined her at her condo in 2018 and lived with her until her passing.
During her lifetime, Rose worked part-time as a bookkeeper and as a medical transcriber. She volunteered in various capacities including for the Girl Scouts and the Ronald McDonald House in Savannah. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.
Rose enjoyed people, socializing, and hosting events for family and friends. She was gracious and generous. She remained lifelong friends with people from all the places she lived. She will be remembered for her energy and spunk, and was still very active in her later years until macular degeneration deteriorated her eyesight, leaving her close to blind.
Rose was preceded in death by her son Gary (1983) and her husband Tony (2009). She is survived by: her children Tony Romano of Savannah, Eileen Romano of Savannah and Mary Lynn (Steven) Bruny of Fort Collins, CO; her grandchildren Tony Maddaluno of Jacksonville, FL, and Alex Bruny and Nick Bruny of Fort Collins, CO; and the Moran, Kish and Boggins families.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 11am at Saint Frances Cabrini Church in Savannah. Family and friends are invited to gather afterwards at the home of Tony Romano. We are so saddened to hear about Rose passing. It's hard now not seeing her out front checking the mail, not waving across the way or stopping for a quick word. Our community will not be the same without her.
